Each year, a bit before the Baselworld hype, gives us a hint of what’s to come by dropping some info about one of their new novelties. Luckily for us, this is an awesome start. For the core, military-style, B&R fan, the new Desert Type line should suit you quite nicely.
The Desert Type line was originally released in 2004 with the Vintage 123 Desert Type and Vintage 126 Desert Type. Two round faced models that came in steel with a beige dial and were limited to 999 pieces each. That’s all were head from the Desert Type family until last year where B&R updated the Desert Type with a BR 03-92 Desert Type, which had a PVD steel case, beige dial with black lume and a distressed calfskin strap and was limited to 250 watches.
Well that model must have sold well, because the designers at Bell & Ross decided to take the design to another level. This year, there will be a Desert Type in the BR 03-94, BR 03-92, and BRS lines, all three utilizing B&R’s latest ceramic cases and a first for B&R, a sandwich dial! The sandwich dial really gives an extra depth to the dial, especially on BR 03-94 model which has sunken chronograph registers. In the past B&R’s black lumed pieces (Phantom, Commando, etc.) have had limited brightness for obvious reasons. Hopefully the use of the sandwich dial will allow them to pile on that lume for some awesome glow!
